Dr. Wood’s expertise, particularly in surgical oncology and dermatopathology, is not merely a testament to his skills but also a reflection of his dedication to providing veterinarians with accurate and insightful diagnostics. His experience not only as a pathologist, but in all other facets of lab operation ensure that PVL stands out as a beacon of quality and reliability in veterinary pathology. In addition to being a member of the American College of Veterinary Pathology, he continually seeks to improve his knowledge by being a member of the International Society of Veterinary Dermatopathology and Veterinary Cancer Society.
Located in the heart of the Pacific Northwest, Dr. Wood has cultivated trust and built enduring relationships with veterinarians in Washington, Oregon, and Northern California, establishing PVL as a recognized and respected name in the region. His leadership at PVL is not just a service; it’s a partnership, ensuring that every diagnostic process supports and enhances your veterinary practice. When he’s not reading biopsies, he and his wife can be found traveling and backpacking with their two beagles through the mountains; and last year he completed the entirety of the John Muir Trail for his 40th birthday.
FOUNDER | Anatomical Pathologist
Jason Wood, DVM, DACVP
Jason Wood, DVM, DACVP, the founder of Pathwood Veterinary Laboratories (PVL), embodies the spirit of leadership, partnership, and reliability that defines our laboratory. His journey, continuously intertwined with veterinary pathology for over 20 years, has been meticulously carved through years of dedicated service, continuous learning, and a steadfast commitment to enhancing diagnostic precision in the field.
He entered the world of pathology while an undergraduate at UC Davis where he was the first employee hired at the then newly started VDx. Over the ensuing five years he learned how to build and grow a veterinary laboratory, working in every position in the lab, and became a manager as the lab expanded. After attending veterinary school at Davis he spent the first two years of his anatomic pathology residency at Oklahoma State University. He then returned to Davis where he spent a year specializing in surgical oncology in a hybrid program with UC Davis and VDx . Over the next eight years he helped make VDx known for it’s PARR and lymphoma diagnostics, created a dermatopathology service and provided timely, high-quality results from Northern California. In 2021 Jason and his wife decided it was time to move to Seattle and after settling in, he decided it was finally time to start his own diagnostic lab.
